You might think this is another blog post about a daughter complaining about how annoying her mother is. Yes, you are right to some extent. But there's a thing you must know about Asian parents: THEY'RE CRAZY!

On Saturday morning, I was trying to write my Bombers story assignment for journalism. My mom yells at me from the kitchen.
"COME EAT!"
"Ma, I ate already, I'm doing my Bomber story."
"COME EAT!"
"I ate already!"

I ignore her. She comes into the living room and shoves a cup of tea in my face.
"Drink this tea!" she demanded. (Teehee, typical Asian drink)

I obediently took the cup of tea and set it down on the computer table; hoping that I wouldn't get any more interruptions. Literally, three seconds later my mom yells.
"COME EAT!"

Does she not understand that I'm trying to do homework? How could I possibly get any work done with so many distractions?
It's also impossible to get any peace and quiet in a house with Asian parents. They talk SUPER loud. I cannot get away!
For example, I am at Superstore; it's pretty loud in the store and I can hear my mom talk about tomorrow's dinner six aisles away.

The thing about my mom is that she talks to me as if I was 3000 miles away. I'm sitting right beside her and she yells in my ear. Not intentionally of course, but that's just how she talks.

But, my mom is like an audio track on repeat. She doesn't stop talking and repeats the same thing over and over again as if the people of the house didn't hear her the first time. Oh how I love her though. Life wouldn't be as funny without her.

The video below pretty much shows what I went through Saturday. ^_^

September 18, 2010:

I was walking the streets on Wardlaw Avenue to the Crescent Fort Rouge United Church during the cool Saturday evening. I reached the outside doors of the church and instantly felt the vibrations coming from the amps. I heard the drums being pounded on and the crash cymbals ringing at an unknown decibel.

The first band to open was Seventh Appeal. An alternative rock, all-girl band from Winnipeg. It was actually quite refreshing to hear a female band play. The vocals needed a little work during the beginning, but after the singer got her voice warmed up. She was up to par. The music and flow was great. The band played a few covers from Three Days Grace, The Used, and Billy Talent.

The next band to play was Gates, a hardcore rock group from Winnipeg. They totally blew the audience away with their fast pace music and screaming vocals. A group of fans were really into their music and started head banging along to their songs. Although the music isn't my type, the band played well as a group.

(Sorry, I couldn't find a video for this group)
Check out their Myspace page.

Lastly, the headlining band: Panic Land took the stage. I am really impressed by this band every time I see them live. They write their own songs and write their own music. They have surpassed my expectations for a local unsigned band. The group puts together quite an entertaining performance with their energetic pop punk power chords and melodic vocals. The stage presence is there and they really come together as a band.

Hello to all you readers. (How ever many that may be)

I have an announcement to make: I've become a Twitter user. I am still not fond of using Twitter because I find it odd. It's an oddity I say, an oddity! But I will eventually get use to using all these Twittering things.

Ever since Facebook exploded into the web scene in 2004. Other social networking sites have become abandoned, well, maybe not "abandoned" but they aren't as popular as they once were. I know myself that I haven't updated a single blog entry on Myspace. When Facebook became the new rave, I swore to myself that I wouldn't get a Facebook. I really hated social networking sites. Then ironically enough, after a load of peer pressure in high school. I got a Facebook. Dun dun dun.....

Shortly after Twitter came into the scene. I encountered more peer pressure. But I had good resistance and didn't fall into the trap in setting up an account.

Until one day...I gave in and made an account but I NEVER used it.

So with all these social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Tumblr, Nexopia, Bebo etc, etc. Which social networking site do you prefer using?

I personally use Facebook the most to keep in touch with my friends and family members, and I look to Myspace for mostly musical oriented things and the rest of the social networking world...I don't know what the heck they are.

Follow me on Twitter! @whats3rname

I'm out.

In todays's advertising class, we presented several ads and explained which ones were either a good ad or bad ad. This is my good ad I decided to share with the class:

Ta da!

No, I'm just kidding. All I wanted to do was display my love for cute things. I wish I could what it says. It's quite unfortunate. But anyway,

The ad I really presented to the class was this one from Converse Co*:

Although, this picture does not show the "Steal the Show" headline. I think it's a lovely photo. I am totally intrigued by the 'skydiving girl on bike'

It reads on their site: "Co* is a community of like minded-individuals who are active, mobile, independent, creative human beings. They are a little different than everyone else and make the world a whole lot more surprising because of what they do and how they do it."

Below are some Converse links:

Who would have thought Converse would have a blog? Read about Converse info here. Although it hasn't been updated since June.

Have a good read!

Band # 2: SeaBreeze

This is one of my friends' band. They are a group from Winnipeg, Manitoba. SeaBreeze consists of 18-20 year old guys with a really 'interesting' sense of humor, which reflects in their song writing. They are a band I turn to whenever I'm in need of a good laugh. Their music is a lot like Pink Floyd, with random cow bells and ukuleles in the background. Their vocals, well, I can't really place my finger on it, but I guess the vocals resemble Johnny Cash - just a tiny bit. This band has no intention of making it big in the music industry. They're just doing it for their entertainment and in hopes of creating a couple chuckles. Listen carefully to their lyrics, it'll be sure to make you go 'HUH?' maybe even gross you out a bit, but I guarantee you'll get a good laugh.

The Members Are:
Jeff Knight - Guitar and vocals
Kristjan Czayka - Guitar
Jay Stephen John Harasymchuk - Bass
Gregory Calrow - Drums

Interested in their wacky song writing skills? Give 'em a listen.

Band #1: Panic Land

This band is one of my favourite local bands. Panic Land is a pop punk band, from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They have consisted of the same lineup since 2008 when the band formed. The band is created by a group of 16-17 year old boys who were formerly known as Forensic Underground and prior to that, they were known as Black Dawn Tomorrow. The band is a reminiscent of early Green Day and The Sex Pistols.

The members are:
Braedon Horbacio - Guitar and vocals
Daniel Dondo - Guitar
Ian Wilmer - Bass
Jordan Holden - Drums

Give them a listen and share your thoughts!

Doing it up! Good ad, bad ad.

This is going to be a short post. My legs are tired from running around a lot today at work. We have very demanding customers at Shoppers Drug Mart. Who would have thought?

But, I have found a theme for my blog: local bands. Hopefully starting Monday, I'll post up YouTube videos and a little biography about each band. Like the App of the Day but Band of the Day. Feel free to post about your favourite local band.

Now off to finish my good ad, bad ad assignment.

Night, night.

Homework + school + work + busy = I go crazy now?

5:06 PM Sharon 0 Comments

I have just arrived home from my half hour bus ride from college. I have to admit, I am still adjusting to the college life and its environment. I am also having fun on the bus rides to and from school. Oh, I tell you. I've seen some pretty interesting things that have happened on the bus. It's kind of entertaining to watch. Not to be a weirdo (although, I am at times) I'd say I'm a people watcher. I like to observe what's going on around me.

Anyone have any interesting bus stories to tell?

Introduction: Hello world, here I come.

1:51 PM Sharon 0 Comments

I fell asleep last night listening to the rain hit against the window pane in my bedroom, it was a good sleep. I'm sitting in my PR class setting up this blog. I would not consider myself a 'blogger' I do keep a diary. I have a lock and key that goes with it too, but that is for my eyes only. So no peeking, but you can read this:

I'm Sharon Mak. That is my name, I do not have a middle name nor a nickname.  I am currently enrolled in the Creative Communications program at Red River College. I would consider this blog to be a new chapter or a new section in my life, a place where I can better myself, learn from others and grow as a person. A place where I can express my insecurities and be myself. There are many things I still have to learn in life and this new section is an opening to what I still have to encounter and endure. It's like opening a present, you don't know what it is. But once you open it, it's yours and only you can choose what to do what with it.

Now after all that banter. I will leave you with a random picture.
